This trip wasn't a simple return flight β it was part of a longer route. I flew Trivandrum β Singapore β Hanoi on Fly Scoot (βΉ11,115), then later flew Hanoi β Saigon on Bamboo Airways (βΉ3,337) before continuing my trip onward to Malaysia. If you're doing a simple Vietnam-only trip, just book direct return flights.
β οΈ Indian passport holders need an e-visa for Vietnam. Apply directly on the official government portal β no agent needed. Processing takes 3-5 working days, sometimes up to a week.

I moved between Hanoi, Ninh Binh, and back β staying in a mix of hostels and homestays.

Hanoi's Old Quarter is a street-food paradise. Every dish below costs less than a coffee back home.
Trang Tien Ice Cream (est. 1958) β where locals actually go. Also try chΓ¨ (Vietnamese sweet jelly dessert) β a Hanoi classic sold at famous old shops all over the Old Quarter.

Learn from my mistake: I took a night ride to Bai Dinh Pagoda in Ninh Binh β and it was closed. Always check timing before heading out at night for temple visits.

Bought a local SIM directly in Hanoi for around βΉ300 β easy to find at small phone shops in the Old Quarter.
Skip banks and airport counters. In Hanoi, local jewellery shops give noticeably better exchange rates than Google's listed rate β especially for USD.
